The Lyngby Porcelain brand dates back to 1936. That was the year Holst & Knudsen opened a porcelain factory in Lyngby. The manufacturer quickly found success and became the largest supplier on the Danish market due to its efficient production.
Highlights of this era include the Danild tableware series and Thermodan, the world's first double-walled porcelain, as well as various decorative items. Also noteworthy are the collection of form vases and the legendary Lyngby vase.
Currency exchange restrictions prevented any further automation after 1960 and the factory closed in 1968.
In the aftermath, the Lyngby vase became a particularly coveted piece in Denmark.
In 2013, the Lyngby Porcelain brand was relaunched, initially making only Denmark's cult vase. This was followed by a new version of Danild with a diamond pattern called Rhombus and the difficult-to-produce Thermodan series, as well as other classics.
Since 2016, the label has been a part of the Rosendahl Design Group's portfolio.
